Even baby teeth can be repaired when decayed or damaged

Even though they will fall out, baby teeth play a crucial role in your child’s lifelong dental health. When a baby tooth becomes decayed or damaged, it can’t provide the support your child’s smile needs to develop correctly. When this happens, the tooth can often be treated to stem damage and provide strength.

At Mariposa Pediatric Dentistry, we offer white anterior pediatric dental crowns. This is a natural-looking and simple option for our patients. We are the only dentist in the area offering this option for patients with Denti-cal at this time.

Benefits of pediatric white dental crowns for your child

  • Matches the color of your child’s tooth for a natural-looking smile
  • Fits most children’s teeth
  • Helps stymie decay and damage to provide adequate support and protection

What to expect during your child’s pediatric dental crown appointment

In the past, pediatric dental crowns were made from stainless steel. While these crowns offered a strong and malleable crown, they look unnatural. Modern white anterior crowns offer a similar level of durability, but are made to look just like your child’s natural teeth. Depending on your child’s particular circumstance, we offer ceramic, resin, and resin-coated stainless steel crowns for the front teeth. Your child will not leave our office with silver front teeth!

At your child’s twice-yearly comprehensive exam, we’ll be on the lookout for anything that might be amiss in your child’s mouth, including tooth decay. While small amounts of decay can be treated with a filling or silver diamine fluoride, extensive decay or damage needs a more robust restorative treatment, such as a pediatric dental crown.

If we think that your child could benefit from a pediatric white crown, we’ll lay out your options and fill you in on costs and what to expect.

A simple procedure to ensure proper tooth development

  • Your child’s mouth and tooth area will be numbed fully to ensure their comfort during the procedure.
  • This step is not always necessary for resin anterior crowns!
  • Dr. Pedersen will remove any decay from your tooth to prepare it for the crown.
  • The pediatric dental crown will be placed over the damaged tooth.
  • Your child might experience mild discomfort for the 24 hours following the pediatric crowns procedure.

Pediatric white crowns FAQs

Are pediatric crowns covered by insurance?

If my child has damage or decay in a baby tooth, does it need to be fixed?

Even though your child’s primary teeth will eventually fall out, they play a crucial part in keeping your child’s mouth healthy and ensuring proper development. Additionally, not treating them could lead to a painful oral infection.
