Preparing for your child’s first dentist appointment

Welcome to Mariposa Pediatric Dentistry. We’re here to make your child’s experience as fulfilling as possible.

When you come to our office for your child’s appointment, we ask that you bring the following items:

Photo ID, including a valid driver’s license or state ID.

Insurance card or information.

A facemask to wear while in the office.

Any information on your child’s oral health or anything they’ve been complaining about or experiencing.

Any questions or concerns you have about your child’s care or oral health.

What to expect at your child’s first appointment

We’re your child’s trusted partner in oral health. At your first appointment, you’ll speak with Dr. Pedersen to discuss your child’s health, any concerns you have, and ways to ensure optimal tooth development as your child grows.

Typical treatments performed at a first appointment:

  • Comprehensive exam
  • Dental cleaning
  • Any needed x-rays
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Guidance on proper oral health at-home care

When should my child first go to the dentist?

We recommend scheduling your child’s first dentist appointment around their first birthday, or once their first tooth comes in.
